The Wealth Gap

A few days ago, I got this little squib from the Economic Policy Institute which looked at some date from the Federal Reserve that I haven't seen discussed anywhere:

The data in the report reveal that in 2004, minority incomes were about 56% that of whites. However, a far larger gap exists when we compare net worth: minorities' net worth was about 27% of whites, about half the size of the income ratio.

This comes as no surprise: that's what racism does in our country.

The rest of the snapshot is here.

Mr. Tasini,

You have lost your way. This was once a must read blog for people in the labor movement, filled with interesting reporting on developments in and among America's unions.

But you have run amok. You write long opinion pieces, but your opinions aren't any more interesting than anyone else's. You've embraced all these fringe causes which weaken labor, adopted a tired Nader-ite tone towards the Democratic Party, and have let your pro-Change to Win bias corrupt your basic journalistic ethics (for example: where's your reporting on the AFL-CIO/NEA partnership?).

You used to act like a journalist and run a blog that covered labor stories before the MSM (or covered stories the MSM never got around to covering). Now you're a pale imitation of Huff Post. Boring.

So, I'm done reading this blog. But if you ever regain your journalistic bearings, exercise a little personal restraint and - you know - break some news, send out an email. I'd love to come back and read what you've uncovered.
