Right Wingers Support CAFTA Democrat
Henry Cuellar was one of the CAFTA 15--the so-called Democrats who abandoned working people when he voted for CAFTA. Now, he's getting a big kiss from the Club For Growth, the conservative political action committee that runs hard-right Republicans against its own (the club's president, former Rep. Pat Toomey, found Arlen Specter to be so liberal that Tommey ran against him in the Republican primary in the last cycle). The Club is endorsing Cuellar in his primary fight.
Here's a snippet from The Hill:
Cuellar faces former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez in a March 7 Democratic primary. In 2004, Cuellar beat Rodriguez by 58 votes after a prolonged legal battle. Cuellar then attracted 59 percent of the vote in the general election. “This is a guy with guts and commitment to the principles he believes in,” the Club’s president, Pat Toomey, said of Cuellar in a conference call with reporters. Toomey cited Cuellar’s support for the Central America Free Trade Agreement, repealing the estate tax and reforming the public-school system as reasons for the Club’s endorsement.
So, what we can do is try to support Rodriguez. Cuellar is a Dem that deserves to go down to defeat.
And speaking of Dems that deserve to be removed, there will be a demonstration tomorrow in New York City at an event for Rep. Gregory Meeks. Meeks is one of the CAFTA 15--and he's being rewarded with an event sponsored by the Queens Chamber of Commerce. If you're in NYC, here are the details: Picket at Queens Chamber of Commerce Event Featuring Rep. Gregory Meeks, protesting Meeks' vote in favor of the Central American Free Trade Agreement
WHERE: In front of Building 14 (Administration Building), JFK Airport. Time: 8 a.m.

As I wrote in my blog, it's all about disseminating information:
So here is my request to Kos, MyDD, Off the Kuff, Dos Centavos and the rest of the blogosphere. Show that the Internet has the power to inform voters even in districts that are not on the sunny side of the digital divide. If primary voters in South Texas know that Ciro voted like a Democrat when he was in Congress and that Cuellar has been voting like a Bush/DeLay Republican, then Cuellar will lose. Please help Ciro Rodriguez win this election. The primary is less than 2 months away.

I’m very impressed with the breadth and reach of this website. Rep. Meeks did indeed meet with the Queens Chamber of Commerce. With your help, the event was packed on the inside, filled with dozens of business people from Meeks’ district interested in doing business internationally. The picket line, all five of them, acquitted themselves, as always, with grace and volume, impressive for such a meager showing…
